Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid: Godin can lead hosts to win

Published:

After picking up a well-deserved 1-1 draw with Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu, it would appear that reports of Atletico’s La Liga demise have been greatly exaggerated with the reigning champions proving more than a match for Los Galacticos.

Diego Simeone’s side remain 11/5 outsiders for victory in the return leg, however, despite boasting home advantage in this Spanish Super Cup tie, with Atleti also out at 5/4 to lift the trophy.

Real Madrid are 6/5 for a win in 90 minutes and 4/7 to take home the cup with the draw in normal time on at 12/5 with Ladbrokes.

But ahead of this La Liga curtain-raiser, we have three of the best bets to back on the night.

Match result with both teams to score – score draw @ 10/3

Raul Garcia’s 88th minute equaliser for the Rojiblancos means that Real and Atleti have now played out score draws in each of their last three competitive encounters and it’s not a massive stretch to predict a fourth here.

The two teams drew 2-2 the last time they met at the Vicente Calderon and we could be in for a repeat when they meet with both teams scoring in three of Real’s last four games.

Atletico Madrid/Draw – half-time/full-time @ 13/1

After deflating Real’s confidence with their late leveller last time out, Diego Simeone’s side could seize the early initiative in the return leg, before running out of steam in the second period.

That has been the case in two of their last three encounters with Los Blancos, with Atleti going in a goal up at half-time only to be pegged back after the break.

Diego Godin to score anytime @ 6/1

As his late headed winner for Uruguay against Italy at the World Cup demonstrated, Godin has something of a knack for being in the right place at the right time for goals.

The South American showed a similar knack with Atleti’s opener in the Champions League final last season and is a tempting price to pop up with a goal at anytime here, as he did when scoring in the 1-1 draw the Madrid side picked up against Barcelona to seal their title success.
