Champions League accumulator: Celtic and Lille likely winners

| 19.08.2014

The Champions League qualifying action continues thick and fast this Wednesday with a fourfold featuring Celtic and Zenit St Petersburg who are both being backed for away wins.

They are joined by hosting sides Slovan Bratislava and Lille in an accumulator offering odds of 25/1 with Ladbrokes for those feeling lucky. Read on for all the information on our four selections.

Lille to beat Porto @ 29/20

A Divock Origi penalty helped Lille to their first win in Ligue 1 last weekend and with the ever reliable Vincent Enyeama keeping clean sheets in three of their previous four competitive fixtures, a home win over a Porto side that travels poorly could be on the cards.

The Portuguese giants have lost three of their last four games away from home in the league last term and are nursing something of a Champions League hangover having won just one of their last seven in the competition.

Celtic to beat Maribor @ 6/4

The Bhoys earned a surprise reprieve in this competition after Legia Warsaw’s substitute suspension woes and while the Scottish champions were easily beaten 6-1 on aggregate in that tie, the tie was dead after an early Efe Ambrose red card helped condemn Celtic to a 4-1 loss in the first leg.

A trip to Maribor should provide a different outcome, with Celtic improving in recent games with a 3-0 away win over a St Johnstone followed by a 6-1 victory over a previously in-form Dundee United. Their Slovenian opponents lost 3-1 at the weekend and could fall short again here.

Slovan Bratislava to beat BATE Borisov @ 13/10

Currently on an eight-game winning streak at the Stadion Pasiensky, Slovan Bratislava should have enough to see off a BATE team that lost 1-0 away to Debrecen in the last round before triumphing 3-1 in Belarus.

The Borisov side have won just one of their last four going into this game and could suffer the same fate as Moldovan big-spenders Sheriff, who lost 2-1 in Bratislava in the last round.

Zenit St Petersburg to beat Standard Liege @ 10/11

A 5-2 loss away to Mouscron-Peruwelz in the Belgian league was the worst possible preparation for Standard ahead of this encounter with Zenit St Petersburg. The Liege club have now lost two on the trot and could struggle having drawn a blank at home to Panathinaikos in the last round.

Zenit, meanwhile, have won four out of four in the Russian Premier League and beat AEL 3-0 last time out in the Champions League. Back Hulk, Aleksandr Kerzakov and Salomon Rondon to rack up the goals for the visitors.
