Hearts v Hibernian: Home side to build on Rangers scalp in derby

| 15.08.2014

Don’t adjust your TV sets this Edinburgh derby is being played in the second tier of Scottish football for the very first time, but it will still be contested as fiercely as ever, with a new-look Hearts tipped to come out on top of visiting Hibernian.

These sides both began their respective Championship campaigns with victories, but it was the Robbie Neilson’s
Jambos who can take most confidence into this famous old fixture, as we pluck three best bets.

Hearts to beat Hibs @ 19/20

Although the financially-stricken Hearts outfit of last season ended up finishing rock-bottom of the Premiership below Hibs, they still enjoyed four victories over the old foe in including the League Cup.

A raft of changes in playing personnel hasn’t affected Hearts’ fine finish to last season, as the new faces helped give Neilson a memorable opening-day victory over Rangers at Ibrox.

Although Alan Stubbs also got off to the perfect start at home to Livingston, the Tynecastle crowd will be the 12th man after such a rousing win.

Hearts to beat Hibernian 2-1 @ 9/1

Only one of the five ties between the inter-city rivals last season was one by more than a single-goal margin.

Starting the season off, Hearts have conceded once in both their cup opener and again at Ibrox while Hibs have both lost 2-1 and won 2-1.

Osman Sow to score first @ 9/2

The hero of the Ibrox victory after popping up with a 90-minute winner, the Swedish striker looks a firm Tynecastle favourite in the making already.

He followed a prolific pre-season with a goal in the Scottish League Challenge Cup against Annan prior to his Ibrox strike and will be the hosts’ danger man once more.
