Keep Kool on day two of York’s Ebor Festival meeting

| 20.08.2014

Day one of York’s Ebor meeting got us off to the best possible start, after the tipped-up Blaine, who was available at 25/1 at times, took the Symphony Group Handicap.

The action continues at full speed on Thursday, and we are hopeful that we can have another winner or two on the Knavesmire.

NAP – Kool Kompany – 13:55 DBS Premier Yearling Stakes

Hopefully this likeable type can get us off the mark in the best possible way on day two of the Ebor Festival.

The Richard Hannon-trained two-year-old was just turned over in a Group 1 at the Curragh last time out when sent off odds-on favourite.

But this race is arguably weaker than that contest, and we fancy Richard Hughes’ mount to get his head back in front.

He gives weight all round, but with some still coming up short in the official ratings even with the concession, and others looking unsuited to a 6f trip, this proven Group race winner should have enough to bag his fifth career victory.

NB – Waila – 16:20 Galtres Stakes

Last seen when failing to fully see out a 1m6f trip at Goodwood behind the preposterously game Missunited, Sir Michael Stoute’s filly looks in a good position to take this.

A drop back to 1m4f will surely be of benefit on ground that looks ideal.

She was a head behind Arabian Comet that day on the Sussex Downs, but returns here on 4lb better terms, and is fancied to turn the tables on the Knavesmire.

Starlet could be an interesting candidate, having run out a nice five-length winner on just her second start last month.

However, with experience on her side, we are siding with the mount of Ryan Moore.

Lively Longshot – Ticking Katie – 16:55 EBF Stallions Fillies’ Stakes

After Blaine’s nice victory on day one, the pressure is on to keep the ball rolling with our Lively Longshot.

Ticking Katie is a consistent type, either winning or finishing within 2l of the winner on eight of her 12 career starts.

She ran out a winner over course and distance on her penultimate start, and taking into account jockey’s claims, runs off 5lbs higher here, a mark not out of the realms of possibility.

She will need to eke out a bit more in this competitive handicap, but in the hands of in-form trainer Karl Burke – he has a strike rate of 29% in the last fortnight – is worth a chance at a nice price.
