League Cup Accumulator: Championship big boys backed

| 11.08.2014

The League Cup may have a track record for producing shocks aplenty but we are backing five predictable outcomes this Tuesday with four of the Championship’s finest backed for comfortable wins against out-of-sorts opposition.

Millwall and Bournemouth both made winning starts to their respective domestic campaigns while Reading and Blackburn can build on draws against credible opposition last weekend with home wins.

Throw in Bristol City, who impressed in Saturday’s early kick-off in League One and you have a fivefold offering odds of nearly 9/1 for those keen to stick to the form book and divisional divides.

Blackburn to beat Scunthorpe @ 4/7

Gary Bowyer’s team held their own against Cardiff in Friday’s Championship curtain-raiser and are expected to maintain their fine home form, which has seen them go 13 league games unbeaten at Ewood Park, against a Scunthorpe side fresh from losing 3-1 on the road to Swindon Town.

Bristol City to beat Oxford United @ 4/6

City were worthy 2-1 winners against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday and should make light work of an Oxford side that made an inauspicious start to life under Michael Appleton, losing 1-0 at home to Burton to make it eight defeats from their last nine League One games.

Bournemouth to beat Exeter @ 4/6

A trip to St James Park should pose few problems to a Bournemouth side on a high after their 4-0 away win over Huddersfield. The Grecians’ off-field problems continue to dominate and despite a 1-1 draw with Portsmouth at the weekend, the hosts could be in for a torrid game.

Millwall to beat Wycombe @ 1/2

The Lions look a different prospect to the side that struggled last season with a 2-0 home win over Leeds seeing some talk of Ian Holloway’s side as dark horses for the playoffs already. Wycombe also won at the weekend but won’t relish a trip to the New Den and have only won three of 13 on the road.

Reading to beat Newport County @ 1/2

A late Wigan equaliser denied Reading a good win over the Latics but it should be a different story against Newport, who travel poorly. County’s 2-0 loss to Wycombe means the Welsh side have won just two of their last ten in the league and they have also won just one of their last 11 on the road.
