Man Utd trickster best swerved by West Ham if Morrison remains
Louis van Gaal’s arrival at Manchester United has made being a winger at Old Trafford a bit dicey, with the Dutchman’s preference for a 3-5-2 system rendering the position obsolete.
If, like with Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia, the new manager doesn’t think the wide men have the necessary defensive credentials to convert into a wing back, then it’s likely a Red Devils exit will be mustered.
For Wilfried Zaha that seems to be the case as Van Gaal publicly stated there will be no spot in the side for the former Crystal Palace star, unless he can force his way into the forward line.
With Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez all in the queue for the two starting spots up front, and Adnan Januzaj also trying to find himself a place at the strikers table, an Old Trafford departure is the most obvious move for the Ivory Coast-born player.
West Ham, with all their new found attacking intent, are the club first in the queue to pick up Zaha should he be cast aside, with ample space on their wings to incorporate the 21-year-old’s strengths.
Matt Jarvis and Stewart Downing were Sam Allardyce’s crossers of choice last term. Zaha, as shown in the below video, is more dynamic than both of those and would provide a bigger spark than either of his compatriots should he become a Hammer.
However, if Ravel Morrison remains on the Upton Park books, Allardyce could be tempted to pass over the man who was loaned to Cardiff City for the second half of last season.
The pair aren’t the best of friends having been involved in an on-pitch spat during an England U21 European Championship qualifier last October.
Zaha accused Morrison of not passing to his teammates that night, which caused the two to square up to each other before being separated. The feud reportedly continued in the dressing room after the match ended.
