Both McLarens to earn points make Belgian Grand Prix best bets

Published:

Formula One has awoken from its annual mid-summer slumber as the 22 drivers rev up their engines to do battle at one of the quickest circuits on the calendar at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium.

As is customary here at news.Ladbrokes we’ve run the rule over some potential money-making angles for the big race:

Lewis Hamilton to win @ 8/11

Although qualifying has yet to commence at the time of writing, Hamilton’s electrifying pace in second practice has laid down an ominous marker, even to his Mercedes teammate.

The British driver left championship leader Nico Rosberg and the rest of the field for dust at Spa, finishing a full six tenths of a second ahead of the German in second.

Despite qualifying mistakes pre-break, this colossal time-gap has to point punters towards Hammy.

Both McLarens to finish in the points @ 5/6

Another Brit to excel in the second practice session was Jenson Button in his McLaren, as the former world champion managed to split the Williams duo to finish sixth.

It may have been a wholly frustrating season for the former Braun pilot, but at least he and teammate Kevin Magnussen have finished in the points in five out of their last six races apiece.

Magnussen also showed points-gathering pace in his McLaren, finishing ninth in the second practice session.

Fernando Alonso in market without Mercedes @ 4/1

Although the Spaniard has flattered to deceive a little with commanding practice sessions before now, Alonso showed terrific pace to become the only driver outside Mercedes to break the 1.50 lap time.

However, an update to the Ferrari engine may just have paid off for the Italian team given Alonso’s race pace was in front of both Williams and Red Bull.
