US Open Day 3: Anderson and Dimitrov to breeze through

Published:

The shock exit of Dominika Cilbulkova at the hands of CiCi Bellis has highlighted the potential pitfalls of early round US Open betting.

The 15-year-old American – ranked 1,208th in the world – sent the 12th seed packing in the first round and busted many a first round accumulator in the process.

Punters, however, should not be put off with the men’s side of the draw offering a chance to land some big winnings.

Here Ladbrokes News’ James Curtis looks at three solid bets for day three, which when placed as a treble offer tempting odds of 11/2.

Kevin Anderson to beat Pablo Cuevas 3-0 @ evens

Just 20 places separate these two in the world rankings but Anderson boasts a great deal more hard court experience than the clay court-loving Uruguayan.

Cuevas is yet to play on the hard stuff in 2014, while the South African has features in 31 matches, winning 21 times.

Anderson won 2-1 the last time the pair met but his familiarity with the courts will tell so expect a speedy progression from this year’s Toronto Masters quarter finalist.

Ivan Dodig to beat Feliciano Lopez @ 5/4

Dodig is the underdog in this match – Lopez is the 4/7 favourite – but it was the Croatian who won in straight sets when the pair met in Barcelona earlier this year.

The head-to-head reads 2-2 between the two and while both of Dodig’s wins have come on clay he will confident given his year-on-year progression at the US Open.

The Croat has got one stage further than the last for each of the past three years, while Lopez has failed to improve, crashing out in the third round for three successive years.

Grigor Dimitorv to beat Ryan Harrison 3-0 @ 1/2

Dimtrov is priced at 1/14 for the win so the 3-0 option males much more sense, especially as that was the outcome when the pair met at Wimbledon earlier this year.

American Harrison will have the home crowd on his side but Dimitrov is now a seasoned campaigner and is unlikely to put off by a partisan following.

Separated by 176 places in the world rankings these two should play out a match according to formula so put the house on a Dimi whitewash.
