Werder Bremen midfielder Ludovic Obraniak on West Ham’s radar

| 27.08.2014

He’s been linked to Liverpool, Everton and Arsenal in recent years, but it looks as if Mohamed Diame could be on his way out of Upton Park, to join London rivals QPR.

But you cannot accuse West Ham of being lax in their search for a replacement, with reports suggestion a move for Ludovic Obraniak is imminent.

Should Harry Redknapp stump up the reported £3.5m fee the Hammers are commanding for Diame’s signature, the Polish international looks an ideal like-for-like replacement.

Despite putting in a number of decent performances at the Boleyn Ground, certain sections of the Irons’ support have grown tired with the current number 21’s inconsistent nature.

And with an Africans Cup of Nations just four months away, now could be the time for Sam Allardyce to cash in on the Senegal international midfielder.

Potential replacement Obraniak only joined current club Werder Bremen in January but is not thought to be in Robin Dutt’s plans at the Weserstadion.

The attacking midfielder has bagged just the solitary goal and assist in 10 appearances in Germany, but his record at previous club Bordeaux is much brighter for any potential suitors.

With 14 goals and nine assists in 65 Ligue 1 appearances, he would certainly add something to Big Sam’s side.

The 32-capped player has previously stated his desire to move to the Premier League, saying “it was England or Germany, otherwise I would have stayed at Bordeaux” after his switch to Bremen, so a move to the capital could well be on the cards.

If Diame were to leave, West Ham could lack a little depth in their immediately available attacking midfield options, with Kevin Nolan out injured, Enner Valencia still taking time to settle in and Matt Jarvis attracting interest from elsewhere.

And as they prepare to take on Southampton at the weekend, for which they are a 6/4 shot, the signing of Obraniak would add that extra bit of quality to the Claret and Blue’s squad.
