New Chelsea duo promise goals for patched-up Spain against France

| 04.09.2014

Amid a raft of retirements, Spain travel to France determined to prove they’re still a force to be reckoned with on the international scene.

The European champions have packed the heavy artillery onto the plane for their assault on the Saint-Denis too, with on-song Chelsea twosome Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas vying to blow holes in Les Bleus backline.

With these two in tow, the 19/10-rated away win will prove too irresistible a flame for plenty of punting moths.

La Furia Roja’s World Cup catastrophe will undoubtedly steer a fair few into the opposing camp though, heaping their hard-earned on the 7/5 home win, while an equal distribution of the spoils also appeals at 2/1.

In short – Ladbrokes’ impressive spread has rendered selecting a wallet-fattener from the match-betting a la carte tough going indeed.

But fear not, dear reader, for we’ve got just the thing to sate your craving for a wager in the shape of over 3.5 total goals, available at a must-back 31/10.

“What?” we hear you question, “Do Ladbrokes not know that the last five meetings between France and Spain haven’t produced at least four goals?”

Of course we do. We’re also aware that the hosts have kept nine clean sheets in their last 13, but this hasn’t swayed our cast-iron confidence in this bet.

What better pair to dismantle Les Bleus’ concrete-cased rearguard than Costa and Fabregas?

The former has wasted no time in mocking the sceptics who doubted his ability to adapt to Premier League life with four goals in his opening three matches in England, while locksmith extraordinaire Fabregas has as many assists from the same number of outings in a Chelsea shirt.

Only Joey Barton has averaged more key passes in the early exchanges of the new season than the Catalunyan conjurer, while his Brazilian-born colleague has converted his quartet of strikes from just nine shots in total.

They may be fearsome up front, but defensive deficiencies will ensure France are afforded plenty of opportunities to retaliate.

Sergio Ramos is the only recognised senior centre-back to have made the trip to Paris, with Marc Bartra and Mikel San Jose likely to be granted minutes on the pitch.

Using the same blueprint as the Netherlands turned to prior to their 5-1 decimation of Vicente del Bosque’s charges in Brazil, France are equally likely to be amongst the goals here so brace yourself for a downpour.
