Di Maria an angel for Fantasy Football managers this weekend

With many choosing to play their first ‘Wildcard’ early in the season with the summer transfer window slamming shut a fortnight ago, this weekend’s action could have been make or break for many Fantasy Football managers.

Radamel Falcao jumped straight into nearly 10 per cent of line ups, but the sighs of frustration could be heard all around the country when he was named on the bench against QPR.

Instead, it was another Manchester United new boy that stole the show at Old Trafford. Making his home debut, Angel Di Maria delivered one goal, and set up another, not forgetting those all important clean sheet points, a total haul for the week of 14 points.

And with games against Leicester, West Brom and West Ham in the near future, now could be the time to get the Argentine in your squad.

However there is one man that is taking the Premier League by storm, and subsequently dominating the scoring charts, and that is Diego Costa.

The Chelsea striker, with seven goals in four games, is averaging over 10 points a match for armchair bosses. Unbelievably there are four other strikers that would take a bigger chunk out of your budget, than the £10.8m the Brazilian-come-Spaniard demands.

While the start to his career in England has been impressive to say the least, fixtures against Arsenal and Manchester City in the next three weeks could see the goals start to dry up, or slow down at least.

Nevertheless, with the form he is in, the former Atlético man should be one of the first names on the team sheet for fantasy managers.

Away from the big boys, Southampton are a side that many had written off following their exodus over the close season, but Ronald Koeman has made an encouraging start on the south coast, with the Saints currently occupying a Champions League spot.

Nathaniel Clyne has been one man that has caught the eye in a quartet of decent performances to date.

With his penchant for getting forward, the former Crystal Palace full back, has in each match either provided a goal, assist or a clean sheet, rewarding bosses with a handsome total of 25 points so far.

And at a cost of £5.2m, rising just £0.2m since the start of the campaign, there are far worse selections for your squad.

Whether you believe the weekend’s result signals the start of a Manchester United revival, or you prefer to give them a few weeks and stick with the more consistent performers, there are plenty of decisions to be made before the next game week.
