Ladbrokes St Leger Day 1: Get ready for an Angelic performance

Published:

Doncaster is ready to deliver once again with Town Moor set to host another enthralling Ladbrokes St Leger Festival, culminating with the showpiece event on Saturday.

For now though we’re focusing on the opening day with our three best bets carefully chosen to help you on your way to emptying the bookmaker’s satchels.

Well, at least that’s what we’re hoping for…

Back a winner at 4/1 or greater and get a free bet up to your unit stake on all Doncaster races throughout the St Leger Festival.*

Plus, Ladbrokes are also offering 1/4 odds a place on all 29 races at the four-day meeting.

NAP – Angelic Lord – Irish Stallion Farms EBF Conditions Stakes (14:30)

Our pick has gone up against some of the best juveniles in training over the course of the summer.

That’s why ANGELIC LORD should be backed to triumph in lesser company having just come up short in the Coventry Stakes and July Stakes respectively on his previous two outings.

The likes of Markaz and Fuwairt have been successful in less valuable races this season but we fancy our Tom Dascombe-trained selection to hold the pair off to get his career back on track.

NB – Reckless Abandon – Scarborough Stakes (15:00)

A tough race to call but someone’s got to do it. Kevin Ryan’s progressive filly Online Alexander will be one to look out for having landed an impressive double at Glorious Goodwood and the Ebor Festival.

But it’s the more experienced types who could get the better of the three-year-old with Group 1 winner RECKLESS ABANDON our choice here.

Godolphin’s talented four-year-old hasn’t enjoyed the best of campaigns so far.

However, connections could see their charge recapture the form that delivered five straight victories at the start of his career.

Six of the last 10 renewal winners have been drawn in stalls 1-6 and with the going likely to be good to soft, a bit of cut in the ground should work in our runner’s favour.

Steps is another who could benefit from these conditions while Frankie Dettori’s mount, B Fifty Two may also come in for support.

Lively Longshot – Basil Berry Romero Insurance Brokers Ltd Handicap (16:45)

Silvestre De Sousa is the jockey charged with delivering our final bet of the card and in BASIL BERRY the Brazilian appears to have a great chance of doing so.

The course and distance winner has produced some of his best work over this trip, including a gutsy victory at Doncaster back in May.

Recent Newmarket winner Marmoom will be a threat while 7f specialist Wilde Inspiration is also rightly feared.
