Leicester Transfer Watch: Powell and McGoldrick top Foxes list

Published:

Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson is aiming to build upon his side’s solid start to their Premier League campaign with moves for Manchester United’s Nick Powell and Ipswich Town striker David McGoldrick.

The Foxes appear to have beaten Sunderland and Hull City in the race to sign 20-year-old Powell on a season-long loan deal.

However, the East Midlands club appear to be battling it out with Crystal Palace for the signature of McGoldrick with the player’s current employers also making life difficult.

Ipswich have already turned down a rumoured £6m bid for the forward and are believed to be holding out for a figure closer to their £7m valuation.

Tractor Boys boss Mick McCarthy has already resigned himself to the fact that one of his star players could be about to leave for a first shot at the Premier League.

The clock is ticking ahead of tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline day, however a deal is expected to be completed for a player who netted 16 times for Ipswich last season.

Meanwhile, the capture of Powell is another positive signal of intent from the Foxes with the 20-year-old showing plenty of promise at Crewe before signing for the Red Devils in 2012.

A successful loan spell spent at Wigan last term yielded 12 goals in all competitions and Pearson will be hopeful he can continue to aid the attacker’s career progression.

Leicester have already made some eye-catching signings this summer, including former Argentine international Esteban Cambiasso from Inter Milan.

Further investment in the squad is sure to please fans at the King Power Stadium while Ladbrokes have reacted to the club’s resurgence by making them relative 5/2 outsiders to suffer relegation on their return to the top flight.
