Liverpool v Ludogorets: Gerrard to score on European return

Published:

Liverpool head into Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Ludogorets Razgrad as heavy favourites for victory, but write-off the Bulgarians at your peril!

The Reds are 2/9 to make a triumphant return to the top table of European football, while Ladbrokes has the draw priced at 11/2 and a Ludogorets win available at 14/1.

Ahead of kick-off, however, we’ve trawled the many markets available before the game to give you the three bets worth backing – read on for more.

Raheem Sterling to score first @ 6/1

He may be an obvious choice, but Sterling’s solid goalscoring form for Liverpool so far this term makes him the standout pick to score first when Ludogorets visit Anfield this Tuesday.

Sterling has already opened the scoring twice for Liverpool in the Premier League this term, against Southampton and Tottenham and with Ludogorets shipping goals in each of their last six competitive games played on the road, the Reds man could be in luck again.

Both teams to score @ 6/5

These two teams share a love of attacking football which has seen the Bulgarians concede goals in four of their last five, while Liverpool have kept just one clean sheet from their last 10 games in the Premier League ahead of this one.

Ludogorets surprised Steaua Bucharest to get this far and it wouldn’t be a shock to see both them and Liverpool get on the scoresheet, with the Reds no doubt still reeling from their surprise 1-0 loss to Aston Villa at the weekend. Back another surprise of sorts here.

Gerrard to score and Liverpool to win @ 19/10

With four goals in Liverpool’s last four home victories in the Champions League, Steven Gerrard may have had to wait five years to add to that record at Anfield but it would not be a surprise to see the now-retired England icon get on the scoresheet here.

The 34-year-old is on the hunt for his 40th Liverpool goal in European competition and while his predilection for long-range strikes is one good reason to back him to score in a Reds win, the fact he takes penalties for the Merseysiders makes this one tip too good to ignore.
