Man United darling has host of top-flight choices next season

When Manchester United signed Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid this summer, it left the Spanish club’s mega-star, Cristiano Ronaldo, a little perplexed.

Then, when Los Blancos also decided to ship out Xabi Alonso to Bayern Munich, the Portuguese winger again criticised the club’s thinking.

The moves have reportedly left the goal-scoring sensation so disillusioned with life at the La Liga giants, that he is now considering quitting the club he once dreamt about joining.

Ronaldo is said to be keen to return to the Premier League at the end of this season, with Manchester United and their arch rivals City two of three potential destinations.

The Red Devils, who are 8/11 to finish in the top four this season despite a bumpy start to life under Louis van Gaal, are the obvious front-runners to reclaim their once prized possession, with Ronaldo regularly declaring his love for his former side.

However, whether Van Gaal sees the forward, who will be 30 by the time any deal can be reached, as a wise purchase is another matter.

Kevin Strootman and Mats Hummels are known to be at the top of the Dutchman’s shopping list and with a £53m deal to make Falcao’s loan deal permanent committed to, the £60m asking price for Ronaldo could dissuade the beleaguered manager.

City would have no qualms over that transfer fee and could offer Ronaldo hefty wages and Champions League football, however whether the Portuguese star would betray his former side by moving to their enemy is questionable.

The final horse in the race is Chelsea, whose manager Jose Mourinho worked with Ronaldo at Real Madrid and shares the same agent as the player.
