Can Schneiderlin bolster Manchester United midfield?

Published:

Morgan Schneiderlin’s Southampton ‘misery’ could be over as Manchester United are reported to have entered the race to sign the Southampton star.

The France international angled for a move to Tottenham earlier in the summer and accused the club of “destroying” six years of joy on the south coast by blocking his reunion with Mauricio Pochettino.

Schneiderlin has played over 200 games for the St Mary’s outfit since signing from Strasbourg in 2008 and is seemingly the only player Ronaldo Koeman is hell bent on keeping at the club.

Southampton finally decided to grow a backbone with regard to the Frenchman after seeing Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Luke Shaw, Calum Chambers and Dejan Lovren all snapped up by Premier League rivals earlier in the summer.

However, United appear ready to test the Saints’ resolve further after growing frustrated in their attempts to sign the likes of Kevin Strootman and Arturo Vidal.

United appear set for a busy end to the transfer window with Radamel Falcao and Daley Blind set to arrive and Danny Welbeck, Tom Cleverley and Javier Hernandez set to join Wilfried Zaha and Shinji Kagawa through the exit door.

United are priced at 2/7 to return from the international break with a bang against QPR and their odds on winning the title – which have already tumbled to 16/1 – could get shorter still if Louis van Gaal pulls off all the deals he has cooking before the window slams shut at 11pm.
