New-look Man Utd top 5 things we can’t wait to see this weekend

Published:

Having to wait the best part of two weeks after the most bonkers transfer deadline day seen for many a moon, the Premier League is back following the international break and packed with hundreds of millions worth of new talent.

To honour the occasion, we’ve had a good old think about what the world’s most competitive top flight has in store this weekend.

How Louis van Gaal’s post-deadline day Man Utd line up

Will the ‘Iron Tulip’ stick with 3-5-2 and bring in Marcos Rojo in defence, Daley Blind in midfield, Luke Shaw and Rafael as wing-backs and Radamel Falcao up front, now they’re all in situ/injury free?

Or will Blind play left-back, behind Angel Di Maria, with thought-to-be fully fit Ander Herrera back in the centre of the park in a 4-2-3-1 alongside Darren Fletcher, while Falcao waits on the bench for Wayne Rooney at right-forward or Robin van Persie up front to disappoint?

The permutations seem endless, the possibilities countless. The wait? Not long now.

The Red Devils are 2/7 to win their first match under Van Gaal at home to QPR.

Esteban Cambiasso’s Leicester debut

It’s something of a mystery as to why none of the Premier League’s leading lights weren’t interested in this five-time Serie A topping Argentine, who also has Champions League and La Liga winners’ medals, among plenty more, from his illustrious career.

Foxes midfielders Dean Hammond and Andy King should be very afraid for their places, but Cambiasso’s record of 78 goals in 629 senior all-competition appearances make 7/1 odds on the 34-year-old firing on debut appeal little.

Hull and Sunderland’s South American sharp-shooters

Abel Hernandez and Ricky Alvarez have been brought in by the Tigers and the Black Cats, with the former commanding a fee of £10m from Palermo, while the latter is on loan from Inter Milan.

With 14 Serie B goals in 28 games last term, Hull’s Hernandez looks a fine shout at 2/1 to notch at home to West Ham, but Alvarez’s four Serie A strikes and eight assists last term suggests he’ll be providing the Sunderland bullets at home to Spurs, and should be swerved at 4/1.

Whether Aston Villa can keep up their implausible unbeaten run at Liverpool

Paul Lambert’s men are in something of a false position, having hit third in the Premier League after wins against Stoke and Hull, plus a draw at Newcastle, in three matches so far.

However, few punters predicted that Villa would be on seven points at this stage. They’re 10/1 to beat an injury-hit Liverpool side at Anfield. Stranger things have happened.

Swansea’s Jefferson Montero running at Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic

By coincidence or otherwise, three of the four Premier League goals the Blues have conceded this term were assisted by players who lined up on the left side.

Chelsea’s right-back zone was clearly left empty for Burnley’s opener at Turf Moor on the opening weekend, and with Ecuadorian speed-merchant Montero likely to make a fourth second-half Premier League appearance on the bounce, Ivanovic will need to be on his guard.

With this in mind, backing the Swans to bag the last goal at 29/10 is advised.
