US Open Day 11: Federer and Wozniacki to play it straight

Marin Cilic to beat Tomas Berdych @ 7/4

A 10-year veteran on the ATP tour, it’s easy to forget that Cilic is still only 25. The good news for fans of the Croat is that he appears to be starting to deliver consistent performances with his 3-2 win over David Ferrer’s conqueror Gilles Simon in the last round proving a particular highlight.

Cilic reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon earlier this year and looks on course for his best ever result at a Grand Slam with only Tomas Berdych in his way. Cilic beat the Czech 3-0 at SW19 earlier this year and in truth Berdych has benefitted from a favourable draw to get this far.

Caroline Wozniacki to beat Shuai Peng 2-0 @ 4/5

The recent break-up with McIlroy appears to be benefitting both parties with the Northern Irishman in great form on the greens while his Danish ex has been similarly impressive, having already beaten Maria Sharapova and Sara Errani at Flushing Meadows en route to this encounter.

Peng has already upset the odds to get this far at the US Open but this could prove a match too far with Wozniacki winning each of the previous five meetings between the two. With Peng losing 2-0 in four of those five encounters, a repeat scoreline looks a safe bet.

Roger Federer to beat Gael Monfils 3-0 @ 11/8

Monfils may have grabbed the headlines with his on-court strop against Grigor Dimitrov but while his 3-0 win over the Bulgarian, who has been dubbed ‘Baby Fed’ was impressive on paper, the reality is that his 23-year-old opponent was guilty of making errors at crucial points in the game.

The Frenchman won’t be so lucky against five-time US Open winner Federer, with the Swiss star dropping just one set so far in this tournament and backed to win 3-0 in what would be his third consecutive straight sets win over the 28-year-old at a major tournament.
