QPR Transfer Watch: Sandro for £6m as Diarra deal collapses

Published:

Queens Park Rangers are closing in on a deal for Tottenham Hotspur outcast Sandro, with the Loftus Road club keen to complete the transfer after missing out on Lassana Diarra.

The Lokomotiv Moscow midfielder had been set to reunite with Harry Redknapp, whom he worked under at Portsmouth, after agreeing personal terms with Rangers.

But that deal looks to be all but dead following a late snag after the Russian club failed to agree a fee with the Rs for the former Arsenal and Chelsea star.

That failure has prompted QPR to redouble their efforts to recruit Tottenham’s Sandro, with the Brazilian thought to be open to the move and the chance to work alongside Redknapp, the manager who brought him to England.

A lack of first-team opportunities have seen Sandro linked with a move away from Spurs for several months.

Earlier in the summer Napoli emerged as contenders to recruit the Brazilian, with manager Rafa Benitez keen to add the Selecao international to his squad.

But Sandro rejected this offer and another substantial bid from Russia in favour of remaining in the Premier League.

A move to QPR represents a more palatable option, however, allowing Sandro to remain in the capital and play more regularly in the English top-flight.

Rangers could be in for a busy couple of hours, amid reports linking the club to several new signings.

Andre Ayew is thought to be on Redknapp’s radar, though the Ghanaian has already reportedly rejected a move to fellow Premier League side Hull City.

Former West Ham and Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe could also be heading to Loftus Road, with the Toronto star thought to be keen on returning to England after seeing friend and manager Ryan Nelsen dismissed from his role at the helm of the Canadian soccer club.
