Redknapp is at it again! QPR linked to Portugal striker bid
The summer transfer window may have slammed shut nearly a week ago, but that has not stopped notorious ‘wheeler dealer’ Harry Redknapp from being consistently linked with moves for several new players currently without a club.
Hugo Almeida is the latest name rumoured to be heading to Loftus Road, with Queens Park Rangers keen to beef up their attacking options and the striker available as a free agent following his release by Besiktas at the end of last season.
Only 30, the Portugal international enjoyed a solid final season in Turkey, scoring 13 goals in 31 Super Lig appearances for the Istanbul giants.
A powerful forward known for his excellent aerial ability, Almeida could take like a duck to water in the Premier League and be the perfect addition to help QPR avoid the drop this season.
Rangers picked up their first win of the campaign last time out in the top-flight, winning 1-0 against Sunderland with a goal from Charlie Austin.
The Rs are next in action against Manchester United at the weekend and while the London club are outsiders for the win, the Red Devils have yet to record a victory in the Premier League.
In the meantime, Harry Redknapp could face a battle to land Almeida, with Leicester City also thought to be keen on completing a deal for the one-time Porto and Werder Bremen striker.
The Foxes have already recruited one high-profile free transfer in the form of Esteban Cambiasso, with the ex-Inter Milan and Real Madrid midfielder joining the Midlands club last week.
QPR have already brought in Eduardo Vargas on loan from Napoli to help bolster their attacking threat, but Almeida could prove to be the kind of old-school centre forward addition to help bring out the best in assist-makers like Joey Barton and Junior Hoilett.
Almeida could yet prove to be the final piece of the puzzle for Rangers.
