Spurs v Forest: Britt to fire Nottingham through

Published:

Tottenham look to put their Premier League woes to one side in the Capital One Cup this week but high flying Nottingham Forest will have other ideas.

Lower league opposition is viewed as a potential ‘banana skin’ at the best of times but with Spurs struggling for league form and Forest topping the standings in the Championship this could be a bunch of banana skins for the north Londoners.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men remain favourites for the win at 4/7, with a draw after 90 minutes on at 3/1.

The value pick, though, and one of the three best bets for this League Cup encounter is the Nottingham Forest win. Read on to find out why.

Nottingham Forest to win @ 9/2

Stuart Pearce’s arrival at Forest has inspired the Nottingham club to a 10-match unbeaten run in all competitions, with seven of those games yielding wins.

Forest have lost just two of their last 11 away games and won six of nine on the road in this competition.

Such form will give them great confidence over a side that has gone four games without a win, lost its last League Cup game at home and has failed to score in three of their last four outings.

These teams haven’t met since 2005 but those looking to history for help will also not that Forest have won six and drawn two of the last 11 meetings between the sides.

Britt Assombalonga to score first @ 7/1 (or anytime at 29/10)

Assombalonga, 21, has taken the step up to the Championship in his stride and netted eight goals in his seven league outings so far.

He may have failed to open his League Cup account for Forest so far but a recent hat-trick against Fulham shows he is in red hot form in front of goal.

A trip to White Hart Lane marks a step up in class but with his eight goals overshadowing the one conjured up by all four Spurs strikers the prices cannot be ignored. Especially with goalless Emmanuel Adebayor a shorter price to net (10/3 and 23/10).
