From MasterChef judge Greg Wallace via tennis coach Judy Murray through to singer Pixie Lott all 15 contestants performed in front of the nation for the very first time to vary degrees of success.
And with the scores now in after the first two shows of the series, Ladbrokes News have picked out three celebrities to watch as the betting market intensifies on who will take home the Glitterball trophy.
The Saturdays’ Frankie Bridge was rightly installed as the favourite to win Strictly Come Dancing after her Waltz scored 30 out of 40 with the judges to put her at the top of the week one leaderboard.
Performing in front of her bandmates alongside Kevin, (yes, Kevin from Grimsby), the popstar’s elegant dance gave Darcey “a beautiful feeling”, while the Bruno thought the ballroom performance was “believable all the way through.”
It’s very early days but with an opening effort like that it looks like she could take all the beating in this year’s competition.
Who would have thought resident Eastenders hard man Max Branning could dance?
Well, he can and Jake Wood, aka Max from the BBC soap, is one of the dark horses of the competition after his Tango with partner Janette Manrara scored 28 with the judges.
He struck the right note with the audience and judging panel as Craig described him as “one to watch, definitely” with Len proclaiming the dance was “terrific”.
And at 14/1 it could well worth be backing Max, I mean Jake, to extend his vacation from Albert Square and go all way on the dance floor.
While most of the 2014 cast of Strictly Come Dancing were trying to control their nerves during the first performances, Alison Hammond showed no signs of letting any butterflies affect her opening Cha Cha.
Alongside last year’s champion Aljaz Skorjanec, the This Morning reporter gave it everything with judge Craig calling her routine “one of the most confident performances for the first time”.
With plenty of moves and great rhythm in her locker, Hammond could well be one to keep an eye on at 25/1.
