Windshear to finally land a big prize in a bumper Friday at HQ
Published:With just one winning favourite on the card last year, the second day of Newmarket’s Cambridgeshire meeting can be a cruel mistress for punters.
But as we look to get our tipping up to speed ahead of the big handicap itself on Saturday, here are our three to watch out for on Friday’s card on the Rowley Mile.

This ultra consistent colt only failed to place for the first time in his last run, that being a very credible fourth in the St Leger.
Having previously been beaten just 1/4 length by Snow Sky in the Gordon Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, Richard Hannon’s charge has yet to follow up his win at Sandown back in April, but looks to have a stand out opportunity here.
On official ratings, with penalties taken into account, his is at least 6lbs better off than every one of his competitors here.
He has shown previous strong form at Newmarket, and providing we don’t get much more rain, looks like being very tough to beat.
This filly provided Hugo Palmer with his second Group race win within a month when landing Dick Poole Fillies Stakes last time out, and has the profile to do well tackling an extra furlong.
That win at Salisbury saw Jim Crowley’s mount just get up on the line to deny Marsh Hawk, and was subsequently supplemented for this contest.
Out of a Giants Causeway mare, her breeding suggests a step up to 7f shouldn’t be a problem, and comes here with a cracking shout.
Favourite Lucida was probably unlucky not to land a Group 1 last time, but that race being a particularly tough one, and having to make the trip across from Ireland, we are taking her on with this very honest sort.
David O’Meara has done wonders since acquiring this ex-Irish performer.
With four straight wins to his name, it is hard to say how much more improvement there is to come from this five-year-old.
He finished in front of the hugely progressive Tenor, giving him 4lbs back in July, and with that horse going on to comprehensively beat a couple of these, that form looks pretty strong.
This race looks a fairly open one, a number of the Classic generation in this line-up have failed to deliver on promise this season, and it is worth taking a chance on Daniel Tudhope’s mount at a nice price.
