3 frontmen that could end Stoke City’s goalscoring woes

Goals have been a problem for Stoke City this season, with just eight strikes to their name in the Premier League, only Aston Villa and Burnley finding the net on fewer occasions.

The signing of Bojan has been a disappointment, while Mame Biram Diouf has shown promise yet has still just got a pair of goals to his name so far.

With a top-10 finish still well on their radar (for which they are 12/5 shots), Mark Hughes may be tempted to dip his toes into the transfer market in January to bolster his attacking options.

We take a look at a trio of targets Sparky could set his sights on come the New Year.

Joel Campbell

The Costa Rican thrived when out on loan at Olympiakos last season, netting 11 times, and certainly makes a case for more game time at Arsenal when acting as his country’s leading light at this summer’s World Cup.

Alas, Arsene Wenger doesn’t seem to think the 22-year-old is ready for much first team action for the Gunners just yet, and has been limited to just 56 minutes off the bench this season.

Another spell out on loan could be just the ticket for both the player and the club as he bids to get up to speed with the Premier League. A pacy frontman, he could add that urgency the Potters are lacking up top.

Joel Pohjanpalo

Having been linked with moves to the Premier League for the last few seasons, it seems only a matter of time before the young Finn moves into the English game.

He has in the past spoken of his dream to playing for Liverpool one day, so might see a switch to Stoke as an ideal stepping stone to Anfield.

Currently on loan at Fortuna Dusseldorf from Bayer Leverkusen in the German second division, he has proven that he has an eye for goal no matter which level it has been at, scoring 69 goals in 84 senior career starts in all competitions.

Matej Vydra

The Czech international probably doesn’t know whether he is coming or going, back at Watford after a spell at West Brom from parent club Udinese, but he is a natural goalscorer that could develop into Premier League class.

His current loan at Vicarage Road runs until the end of the season, but with the Pozzo family owning both Watford and Udinese, there would be little conflict should the Italian owners be tempted by an offer from Stoke.

The loan at West Brom yielded six goals, mostly from the bench, so might be the man to end the Potters goalscoring woe.
