Arsenal at the head of the queue for Dinamo Zagreb midfielder

| 15.10.2014

Arsenal are reportedly leading the chase for Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, according to the player’s representative.

The Dinamo Zagreb star has attracted the interest of several clubs around Europe and there is strong interest from England for his services, including the Gunners.

The 21-year-old represented Croatia at last summer’s World Cup in Brazil and his agent, Miroslav Bicanic, wants to hold talks with potential English suitors when the national team play the USA at Craven Cottage in November.

“Croatia plays USA in November in London and during our stay there we will hold meetings and negotiate with several English teams,” said Bicanic.

“Yes, I can confirm Arsenal are one of them.”

Brozovic has featured six times for Croatia and his box-to-box style would be suited to the fast pace of the Premier League.

The former Lokomotiva star was on the score sheet in his country’s 6-0 win over Azerbaijan on Monday night and looks to be a key component of Niko Kovac’s squad moving forward.

Arsenal have an abundance of riches in the midfield department when they are not all on the treatment table but with Mesut Ozil out until the New Year and Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey both struggling with knocks, Arsene Wenger will be looking for reinforcements in January.

The midfielder, who has featured for Croatia’s U18, U19, U20 and U21 sides, has made 56 appearances for Dinamo Zagreb, scoring nine goals.

He has built up plenty of European experience in recent seasons, featuring for the current Croatian league leaders in both the Champions League and the Europa League.

Brozovic has five years left on his current contract at the Stadion Maksimir and could cost the north London club, who are still 4/9 with Ladbrokes to finish in the top four despite an inconsistent start, in the region of £7m.
