Ben Te’o to hop away in style for Rabbitohs in NRL Grand Final
Published:South Sydney will be looking to put a muzzle on the Canterbury Bulldogs as they aim to overcome a 43 year absence from NRL Grand Finals and lift the Provan-Summons trophy at ANZ Stadium on Sunday.
The dominant force throughout the season, it is no surprise to see the Rabbitohs reach the title decider this time round.
They are priced at 3/10 for victory, and that price represents absolutely no interest to us at all as they take on a Canterbury side that have put an inconsistent start to the season behind them to put in a number of decent performances together in the latter parts of the campaign.
Here are a trio of flutters it could be worth having this weekend…
While a Grand Final appearance has been a long time coming for the Rabbitohs, it is familiar territory for the Bulldogs. With 10 of their squad remaining from their 14-4 defeat to Melbourne Storm, it is not a first foray into the big one for a lot of Des Hasler’s squad.
And the man himself knows how to get to, and win NRL Grand Finals, having led Manly and Canterbury to the showdown in seven of his 11 years as a Head Coach, winning twice.
The Bulldogs may not be able to snare the Bunnies, but they could run them close. Of their 10 defeats this season, only five have been by double figure margins.
Their task will be boosted by the news that influential South Sydney hooker Isaac Luke will miss the match, and they could even do even better than we expect.
While Canterbury have a chance to claim glory, it looks like they will have to go ahead early, and hold a pretty solid cushion at the break.
It must be something to do with what Michael Maguire says at half time, but the Rabbitohs have been rabid in the second 40 minutes of their matches this season.
Over the course of their 26 games on the road throughout the NRL campaign, South Sydney are a whopping 188 points to the good in total over their various opponents.
So when you consider that the Bulldogs are -46 when it comes to second half points differences, it’s hard to see the favourites not turning the screw, and then some, as the game wears on.
He may have just a solitary try to his name this season, but with the danger that Te’o possesses, he is well worth taking a chance on at a price.
When he is on song there are few in the NRL that are better at running with sheer power, and he was at the peak of his game against the Roosters in the Preliminary Final last week, scoring a crucial try for the Rabbitohs.
Set to switch codes and join Leinster after this match, it would be a perfect send off for the second rower if he could follow up that effort with another score.
