Burnley v West Ham: Bank on a quick start from visitors

Published:

These two sides would probably rather they were taking on sides more harshly hit by the international break, but with just three players between them representing their nations in the past week, both squads should be relatively fresh.

West Ham have been boosted by the news that Mark Noble is ready to return, and Cheikhou Kouyate may feature, as they look to secure back-to-back wins following their 2-0 victory over QPR.

The season hasn’t gone quite to plan for Burnley as they sit in 19th and are yet to pick up a win, although they have avoided defeat in four of their last five Premier League ties.

Here are our best three bets for the tie at Turfmoor…

Over 2.5 goals @ 11/10

Having played out three straight goalless draws, Burnley have opened up of late, although not necessarily for the better. They conceded four at West Brom before sharing the spoils in a four goal thriller against Leicester.

West Ham meanwhile can be relied on to keep up their side of the bargain, with five of their seven league games going over the selection, including all three of their matches on the road. This looks a great bet.

1st Half – Team to score 1st: West Ham @ 7/4

The Hammers have started their games brightly this season, scoring in the first half in all but two of their matches in all competitions.

But for Burnley, the first half of matches have been their week point this campaign, with eight of their 10 goals they have conceded coming in the opening 45 minutes, including all three they have let in on their own patch.

West Ham to win 2-1 or 3-1 @ 11/2

We strongly fancy Sam Allardyce’s men to come out on top here, and while the price on offer isn’t to be shirked at, we are going to take a chance at nailing the correct score.

Their victory against QPR was the first time Irons keeper Adrian has kept a clean sheet this season, and we simply cannot trust the visitors’ defence to shut out their fellow clarets.

They have however scored two or more goals four times in seven matches this season, and should get at least a couple in Lancashire.
