X Factor: Andrea Faustini clear favourite with punters
Published:Italian contestant Andrea Faustini has been subject of the first monster wager of The X Factor series, according to bookmaker Ladbrokes.
Since making it through to the live shows in Mel B’s category the bookmaker’s punters have been backing the Italian all the way to win the top prize like he’s going out of fashion.
And one punter in London is so convinced Andrea’s a good thing to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Little Mix, James Arthur and Sam Bailey and has wagered £5000 on him being crowned this year’s champion at 2/1.
The self-proclaimed Spice Girls fan first wowed the judges singing ‘Who’s Lovin’ You’ by The Miracles/Jackson 5 and sealed his place at the live shows with a tear-jerking performance of ‘And I Am Telling You’ by Jennifer Hudson.
He faces stiff competition to win this year’s show from the newly formed eight-piece unnamed boyband at 5/1 and van driver Ben Haenow from Simon Cowell’s Over 25s category.
They are followed by another of Mel B’s boys with Paul Akister, who was eliminated at the judges houses stage last year coming next in the market at 7/1 and Lauren Platt, who is with Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and the girls, available at 8/1.
At the other end of proceedings, it’s not too surprising that this year’s ‘novelty’ act Blonde Electra, put through by king of the novelty acts Louis Walsh, are the jollies at 4/1 to be the first act to leave the show.
Fleur East, who forced her way onto the live shows with her performance at Simon’s judges house stage is the 5/1 second favourite to be the first to leave the show.
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Andrea’s all the rage with punters and if he puts in a strong performance this weekend it won’t be long before he’s odds-on.”
Elsewhere, Mel B is the 11/10 favourite to be the winning mentor in her first year on the show, with Simon following closely in the market at 5/2.
Cheryl and Louis complete the line-up and are both 4/1 to lead one of their acts to X-Factor glory.
