Fantasy Football: In-form Swansea man becoming a must-have

| 27.10.2014

The Premier League once again threw up no shortage of shocks over the weekend, with Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur all frustrated by bad results.

The knock on effect has seen Spurs drift out to 7/1 and Liverpool to 21/20 for a top-four place, and City to 3/1 to win the title, and should also impact upon your fantasy football selections.

Here’s who’s hot and who’s not after gameweek nine.

Hot – Wilfried Bony

The Ivorian striker grabbed both goals as Swansea beat Leicester City 2-0 in Wales, taking his recent tally to four in three games after a worryingly goalless start to the campaign.

Bony finished last term with 10 strikes in 14 league matches, meaning it’s well worth grabbing him now and cashing in on what looks set to be another rich vein of form.

Hot – Leighton Baines

Despite not keeping a clean sheet, the Everton left-back set up his side’s opener away at Burnley, taking him to 43 assists in total in the Premier League – the second-highest tally for a defender behind Graeme Le Saux’s 44.

Baines has snagged six assists already this season, with four in his past three games, suggesting even if the Toffees continue to concede it’s well worth having the left-back in your side.

Hot – Alexis Sanchez

Arsenal have been far from at their best in recent weeks, but Sanchez has still managed to turn in impressive numbers, with his brace at Sunderland following a goal and an assist against Hull.

The Chilean has scored five goals in nine Premier League games and is getting more impressive with every match, grab him in now before he gets too expensive.

Not – Nacer Chadli

The Belgian surprised everyone, Spurs fans included, by scoring four goals in his first six games this term, but has now gone three without a strike and looked toothless in the loss to Newcastle.

Even at his modest price, there are far better options than Chadli available now his purple patch has seemingly ended.

Not – Raheem Sterling

The England international also flew out of the blocks at the start of the year, but now hasn’t scored in four games and seems to be suffering from Liverpool’s attacking crisis in the absence of Daniel Sturridge.

Sterling has managed a couple of assists in recent weeks, but his hefty price-tag means you’re best off moving your money elsewhere.

Not – Branislav Ivanovic

He might only be banned for one match after his red card at Manchester United, but Chelsea’s defence has looked very leaky of late and Ivanovic’s attacking returns have dried up.

The expensive defender has not registered a goal or an assist since gameweek three, and only two clean sheets in the six games since then. Baines is the better premium defender for your side.
