Southampton v Sunderland: Mackems won’t be fazed by Saints trip

| 17.10.2014

Southampton’s excellent early season form has been rightly recognised by the Premier League with Ronald Koeman and Graziano Pelle rightly receiving the manager and player of the month awards for September.

But October didn’t start so well with defeat to Tottenham and now they face a tough test facing a Sunderland side they haven’t tasted victory against in their previous eight matches in all competitions.

However, Saints have been strong at home so far this campaign and are 8/13 with Ladbrokes to continue their unbeaten run at St Mary’s with a win, while Sunderland are 5/1 for all three points with the draw available at 14/5.

Looking further afield Oliver Yew has found three alternative bets for the action on the south coast that you will not want to miss out on!

Sunderland and Draw @ 23/20

Sunderland picked up their first win of the season against Stoke before the international break and kept up an excellent record against the Potters.

Next up is another club who the Black Cats have enjoyed recent matches against in Premier League high-flyers Southampton.

Last term Gus Poyet’s side went four unbeaten against the Saints in all competitions, picking up two wins and a couple of draws.

Look back even further and Sunderland are on a run of eight games without defeat to Southampton and are backed to extend that sequence in the double chance market.

Both teams to score @ 20/21

Let’s look and the facts…

Three of the four matches between the two sides in the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup ended with both teams finding the net.

Five of the last six league encounters between the two sides have ended with both sides scoring.

And finally 10 of the last 15 matches in all competitions between the Saints and Black Cats have featured goals at both ends.

Enough said. Banker!

Graziano Pelle to score anytime @ Evens

The Italian striker has been rewarded for his fine performances in September with not only the Premier League Player of the Month award but also a debut for Italy, in which he scored the match-winning goal against Malta.

Pelle has been particularly prolific at St Mary’s and Southampton fans will be hoping the former Feyenoord striker’s red-hot form continues and he adds to his five goals already this season against Sunderland.
