Tottenham v Asteras Tripolis: Worth giving Greeks double chance
Published:Tottenham’s erratic form of late does little to inspire confidence as Europa League Group C leaders Asteras Tripolis arrive in north London on matchday three.
Yet, Ladbrokes’ odds compilers are unwavering in their view of the outcome, placing Spurs as the short 1/3 favourites for the win, Asteras are only given an 8/1 chance and the draw splits the prices at 7/2.
Having found no particular solace in the match odds however, we offer up three alternatives.
Asteras Tripolis: Double Chance @ 2/1
Spurs are nothing if not unpredictable; one minute capable of seeing off a very impressive Southampton side in a tight game, but the next capitulating badly 4-1 at Manchester City when it could have been seven or eight.
The Lilywhites have only triumphed in two of their last nine games in all competitions and were fortunate goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was in sparkling form in this competition last time out.
Lloris’ heroics enabled Maurico Pochettino’s side to hold on for the draw having been under siege for the last 30 minutes at home to Besiktas.
Meanwhile, their Greek opponents comfortably beat a Partizan side Spurs also drew with 2-0 last time out, after securing a point at Besiktas and off the back of a four-game unbeaten run – including three wins in all competitions – have a good case for getting a result.
Both teams to score: Yes @ 6/5
Spurs’ defence was at sixes and sevens against City, to put it mildly, though they have at least found the net in their last five games, while Asteras have not been kept at bay in their last 11 outings.
Andros Townsend to score anytime @ 9/5
The England man’s shoot-on-sight policy paid dividends once again for his country against San Marino, but still Townsend was kept on the bench at the Etihad.
Having started the previous pair of Europa League games however, Townsend should at least be recalled to the starting line up at White Hart Lane and he looks a decent price to open his season’s Lilywhites account.
