Ladbrokes go industry-best price on Scotland’s Sunderland striker

It’s fair to say that in a Scotland shirt at least, Steven Fletcher is yet to light the tartan touchpaper, but there’s never been a shrewder opportunity to back the in-form Sunderland striker to pounce.

As Scotland prepare for their Celtic showdown with the Republic of Ireland at Park Head, Fletcher has been boosted to a top industry price to grab the first goal.

The Black Cats frontman was 11/2 to break the deadlock for Gordon Strachan’s Scots, but he’s now way out at 7/1.

Although Sunderland’s record purchase has only ever notched once for his country to date, this can largely be attributed to periods of injury and his semi-retirement from international football under previous Scotland manager Craig Levein.

However, under the guidance of Strachan, the former Wolves man is very much back in the fold and central to Scotland’s dreams of making the Euro 2016 finals in France.

More importantly for this punt, Fletcher has been hitting the net for his club recently.

From his last four Premier League appearances for the Wearsiders, Fletcher has scored as many goals, notching braces against Stoke and then Crystal Palace.

If there was ever a time to get behind Fletcher to reignite his international career, then this offer is it.

The match at Celtic’s home ground promises to be a fascinating encounter, with Ladbrokes labelling the hosts 13/10 favourites and Martin O’Neill’s visitors at 11/5.
