Why Liverpool should avoid recalling Lille loanee in January

| 14.11.2014

Considering the disastrous start Mario Balotelli has made in a Liverpool shirt, the idea of Divock Origi arriving at Anfield in January must sound very good to many Reds fans.

The Belgian youngster is on a season-long loan at Lille as part of the conditions of his summer move to Anfield, but has suggested he would be delighted to come to England early.

The quotes came after Origi scored for Belgium in their 3-1 friendly win over Iceland, and although any deal would be dependent on Les Dogues’ consent, Liverpool must be considering trying push through a winter move.

However, it would not be in the Reds’ best interest to bring forward Origi’s arrival, as the youngster is far from ready to lead their line in the Premier League.

The 19-year-old’s next match is for the Red Devils against Wales and he is priced at 11/10 to score at any time.

Origi’s strike against Iceland broke a seven-game drought for Lille, and the youngster has only bagged three goals in 11 Ligue 1 appearances this season.

The striker is also incredibly raw and prone to giving the ball away, being dispossessed three times per game on average in the French top flight this term.

In fact, only two players in the division cede possession more regularly than Origi, and further doubts about his suitability for a Premier League role this season arise when looking at his performance against Everton in the Europa League.

The Belgian forward was rarely involved as Lille went down 3-0 at Goodison Park, completing just 11 passes, but when he did get on the ball he generally gave it away.

Origi lost possession a massive six times in that game alone, suggesting he could be an even more frustrating figure than Balotelli if brought to England early.

It would be best for all parties if Origi was allowed to develop further at Lille, while Liverpool focus on trying to get Daniel Sturridge fit and Balotelli back into form.
