Liverpool line-up Mexico World Cup star to replace Mignolet

Simon Mignolet enjoyed one of his better nights in a Liverpool shirt in restricting Real Madrid to a 1-0 win at the Bernabeu, but reports linking the Reds with a new keeper are not going away.
The Belgian’s frequently haphazard approach to crosses, combined with the regularity with which he makes errors, have not endeared him to Brendan Rodgers.
Victor Valdes and Iker Casillas are both apparently on the Reds’ radar, as is Guillermo Ochoa, who played a starring role for Mexico at the World Cup over the summer.
The keeper garnered plenty of attention after helping his side secure a 0-0 draw against Brazil in the group stages, being named man of the match.
In the knockout rounds, Ochoa picked up the individual honour for a second time despite the Netherlands’ last-gasp 2-1 win over Mexico.
A free agent in the summer after three seasons with Ajaccio, Ochoa was signed by Spanish side Malaga, but has so far been unable to displace Carlos Kameni from Los Boquerones’ first team, which could aid Liverpool’s chances of signing the 29-year-old for a bargain price.
Just £5m is the figure being bandied around, a fee that would mean that even if Ochoa was unable to displace Mignolet, he would be a well-priced back-up instead of Brad Jones.
However, it would take a brave man to bet against the Mexican replacing Mignolet as Rodgers’ number one.
Last season the Belgian made the most errors leading to goals in the Premier League with five, and he’s already made two mistakes this term and been fortunate neither led to his side conceding.
Whatever happens in the future, Liverpool will likely need Mignolet in top form in their next game at home to league-leading Chelsea, a match the hosts are priced at 23/10 to win.
