Monaco looks the most likely destination for Arsenal legend Henry

| 25.11.2014

Thierry Henry could be in line for his final MLS appearance with New York Red Bulls next weekend with the US side in action against New England Revolution in the Conference Finals with the winner earning a place in the MLS Cup final.

The 37-year-old’s contract is up at the end of the current season and with the World Cup winner’s efforts largely eclipsed by those of goalscoring record-breaker Bradley Wright-Phillips, a move away from the States could yet be on the cards.

Henry has yet to indicate where his future lies, or whether he wants to remain in the game, however Ladbrokes believes the former Arsenal favourite could be in line for an emotional return to one of his former clubs.

And before any Gunners fans get ecstatic/livid it’s not a move back to the Emirates.

The bookmaker has Arsenal at a distant 14/1 to be the Frenchman’s next club with the current frontrunners being AS Monaco – the club where Henry made his name as a youngster.

Deployed mostly as a winger or supporting striker during his time in France, Henry played over 100 games for the Principality club, winning a single league title and reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League in the 1997/98 season as part of the team also containing David Trezeguet.

His former club and national teammate can still be found plying his trade in the Indian Super League at present with Pune City and as outlandish as it sounds you can get 8/1 on Henry either hooking up with his old striking partner or replacing him at the Indian club.

Another team who may be keeping a close eye on the veteran star is Manchester City – though not necessarily in the way you would have thought.

The Sky Blues’ new MLS franchise New York City is still in its infancy and would be undoubtedly be something of a coup to bring the 37-year-old over from their supposed rivals, while allowing Henry to remain in the Big Apple and you can get 10/1 on such a switch.

One thing AS Monaco fans will be hoping they don’t see is a David Beckham-style switch to their Ligue 1 rivals Paris-Saint Germain.

The England legend played for the Parisiens in the final season of his career, donating his substantial wages to charity in the process, and you can get 20/1 on Henry hooking up with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the gang at Parc des Princes.

In the meantime, all eyes will be on the Gillette Stadium to see whether the former Gunners man can fire the Red Bulls to glory just one more time.
