Rosberg to edge out Hamilton heads up best Brazil GP Q3 bets

Published:

The bizarre rule change that sees the last race on the F1 calendar award double-points to the winner has somewhat undercut the drama of the Brazilian Grand Prix, but both Mercedes drivers will still be desperate to claim a win.

Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg are in a straight shootout for the drivers’ championship, with Hamilton currently holding a 24-point lead after winning five races in a row.

The Brit is the 4/7 favourite to win in Brazil, with Rosberg priced at 9/4, but as ever, before punters pick their race day bets they should be lining up some qualifying wagers.

Here at least Rosberg has been able to keep up with his teammate, which is why the first of our best bets is to recommend backing the German for pole.

Rosberg to set the fastest Q3 time @ 7/4

Hamilton’s race-day pace is supreme, but when it comes to a one-lap shootout, Rosberg has been the best in the business this season.

The German has landed nine poles already, including six of the past nine races, and started first on the grid last time out in the USA.

Rosberg’s consistency is truly remarkable, with fourth the lowest he has ended up after qualifying, making him the only driver to reach Q3 in every Grand Prix.

As there’s only been one race all season where one of Hamilton and Rosberg didn’t finish on pole, it’s not worth eyeing up any other driver, and those who love the safest of bets can back a Mercedes car to be on pole at 1/33.

The Qualifying Winning Margin to be 0.151 – 0.300 secs @ 11/8

The two Mercedes cars have finished first and second in qualifying in each of the past six races, and the margin between them has fallen within these marks on four occasions.

Assuming they end up locking out the first row once again in Brazil, this looks a fine bet, especially as the average gap between them in qualifying all season sees Rosberg ahead by 0.184 secs.
