Henry remains some way off Arsenal job despite Parlour claims

| 06.12.2014

Thierry Henry remains a rank outsider to replace Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager, despite the assertions of fellow Gunners legend Ray Parlour.

The midfielder once dubbed the “Romford Pele” told Talksport this week that he envisions the Frenchman one day stepping into the hot seat at the Emirates.

“I think he will definitely get involved with Arsenal. I certainly believe, one day, if he really wants to be a manager, he will be manager of Arsenal,” he told the broadcaster.

“He was such an intelligent player. Arsene Wenger used to have a meeting on a Monday with the players after a game and Thierry would always have his say. He would make some great points, not just about forwards, but about defending and how we defend as a team.

“He always had that charisma to be a manager. And look at his name around the world. People would want to play for him and he would attract big players.”

But anyone predicting a move into the top job at the north London club any time soon could be left sorely disappointed with the former Barcelona and AS Monaco marksmen a distant 33/1 to take over from Arsene Wenger.

Certain sections of the Arsenal support have called for Wenger to step down from his role in charge of the Gunners in recent months, though an immediate move seems unlikely.

The “Professor” recently put pen to paper on a new three-year contract at the club and remains steadfast in his pursuit of another Premier League title to add to the three he previously captured in the early years of his time at the club.

And while Arsenal remain some way off leaders Chelsea, the Frenchman has yet to concede defeat.

With Wenger likely to stay on for the foreseeable future, the 33/1 offered by the bookmaker could represent something approaching value, with current front-runners Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola likely to be in-demand elsewhere in the meantime.

Moves elsewhere for the European pair could pave the way for Henry to move into the top job at the Emirates and potentially follow in the footsteps of George Graham who enjoyed success at the club as both a player and later manager.

For now though all eyes are Henry to see what his next move in football will be.
