Newcastle v Everton: Perfect visitors for hosts to stop the rot

Published:

Two teams in dreadful form face off at St James’ Park when Everton visit Newcastle, so backing the draw at 12/5 may make sense to many punters.

We would never be so boring as to tip it up though. Here are our three best bets.

Newcastle to win @ 8/5

The Toffees just can’t get their act together at the moment.

A 3-1 win over QPR in mid-December halted a run of two losses and a draw from three Premier League matches, but that Goodison Park victory has been followed by 3-0 and 1-0 defeats at Southampton and when hosting Stoke.

Newcastle may have lost their last three top-flight matches on the spin, but they were unbeaten in six at home prior to that run, seeing off Leicester, Liverpool, QPR and Chelsea (still the Blues only loss of any stripe this term) on their own patch between mid-October and early this month.

On balance, at 8/5 the pair, Alan Pardew’s boys have to be backed.

Under 2.5 goals @ 9/10

The 2-1 win over Jose Mourinho’s men was the only fixture in Newcastle’s last five at St James’ Park to feature three or more goals, and narrowly at that.

With eight of Everton’s past 14 all-competition outings also shuffling under the 2.5-strike mark, the same again looks the way to play in the north east.

Ayoze Perez to score the first goal @ 6/1

Despite scoring five after coming off the bench so far this season, including last time out in the 3-1 loss at Manchester United, Papiss Cisse has only started five of the Magpies’ 18 top-flight games in 2014/15.

With that in mind, getting behind young Spaniard Ayoze, who has started Newcastle’s past eight Premier League matches and bagged the only goal at home to Everton’s Merseyside brethren Liverpool earlier in the campaign, makes sense.
