Radwanska’s new alliance makes her exciting Australian Open bet

Having an 18-time Grand Slam winner as a coach can only be a good thing for world number six Agnieszka Radwanska with a fresh assault on the major championships barely a month away.
The Pole looks certain to benefit from appointing tennis legend Martina Navratilova as her mentor ahead of the new 2015 season, which really gets under way in January at the Australian Open.
Radwanska, 25, was a Wimbledon finalist back in 2012, her best result at a Slam to date, but has also performed consistently well on the fast courts of Melbourne Park.
Navratilova’s new pupil reached the quarter finals in three consecutive years until bettering that performance by reaching the last four in 2014.
On that occasion Radwanska dumped out Victoria Azarenka to reach the semis, before falling to eventual runner-up Dominika Cibulkova.
However, with Navratilova now in her court, the 25/1 about a maiden major success Down Under has a bucket-load of appeal attached to it.
This is Czech-born Navratilova’s first foray into coaching, despite winning nine Wimbledon titles during a glittering career in the womens’ game, but she clearly has faith in Radwanska’s abilities to jump on board.
Navratilova, 58, said: “I can’t wait to get started on this new phase of my career and I am really excited.”
Meanwhile, Radwanska is clearly over the moon to have such a phenomenal tennis talent guiding her for the new season.
“Her achievements speak for themselves and I hope that I can learn from all her experience,” said the Pole.
“She is my tennis idol. We are originally from a similar part of the world, so we share an understanding about tennis and life, which I’m sure will translate into a successful relationship.”
