Saints @ Bears: Two slumping defences equals points galore

Published:

The New Orleans Saints and the Chicago Bears sit on identical records this season, but only one of the pair still harbour playoff dreams.

Having won five and lost eight of their outings, the Bears already know that they’ll have nothing more to do once the campaign finishes in three games’ time. However, the Saints can still cling to the possibility that they’ll be playing playoff football come the turn of the year.

Before a crunch meeting with the Atlanta Falcons, the Saints’ rivals for the NFC South crown and that playoff spot, Sean Payton’s men must first claim a third straight victory against the Bears, something they are 20/31 to achieve according to Ladbrokes.

The likelihood of them doing so isn’t as strong as the odds make out though as the Saints arrive in the Windy City in the middle of a 1-4 slump.

New Orleans’ only victory during that run came on the road and the Bears’ more-than-friendly defense should help to even out the loss-heavy recent numbers, but with their odds-on status looking particularly flimsy given their form, there are other markets far more worthwhile to back.

Foremost of such options is the total points market, which looks a bargain at 10/11 for over 54.0 in the encounter.

The Bears have the league’s worst-ranked defense this season and allow more points than any other side at 29.1 per game.

During their current sorry run, the Saints’ D hasn’t fared much better, conceding at least 27 points in each of their last five games.
