Strictly Come Dancing: Caroline’s no underdog after sublime Charleston

Published:

So the ‘Perfect 10s’ are becoming more and more frequent and the competition is really hotting up, and this weekend saw a significant market move in the race for the Glitterball Trophy.

And while the scores were generally in the high 30s, the inevitable happened and Sunetra Sarker met her Strictly end with her Rumba attracting a paltry 27 from the judges who opted to send her home to the benefit of Mark Wright.

Here’s how they performed this week.

Caroline & Pasha – 11/2

It was an inspired move to put a Middle Eastern twist on the American Charleston, as the television presenter soared to the top of the leaderboard.

With 10s from Darcy, Len and Bruno it was almost a perfect performance for the judges as she racked up a score of 39 out of 40.

Could the perennial dark horse go all the way?

Pixie & Trent – 15/8

The long-time show favourites were clipped in from 2/1 after their Viennese Waltz attracted a very healthy score of 38.

Bruno Tonioni continued to show the love for the pop star, awarding her a 10 for the third week in a row.

Craig Revel-Horwood added; “We’ve all come to expect great things from you and I’ve got to admit that did not disappoint”.

Simon & Christina – 8/1

Following their leaderboard-topping Argentine Tango last week the Blue star was under pressure to continue his impressive performances.

He certainly didn’t crack with an elegant performance of the Waltz to The Sound of Music’s ‘Edelweiss’.

However, despite another good score of 38, the pair were nudged out in the betting from 7/1 to 8/1 following the weekend’s shows.

Frankie & Kevin – 11/4

The show’s second-favourites were slightly off top form this weekend, although were still able to dazzle with their American Jive, receiving 36 out of 40.

Their rendition to the Beach Boys’ ‘Surfin’ USA’ left Craig lost for words:”How you jive on a surfboard is beyond me, darling. I really loved it”.

Can Frankie stop fellow popstar Pixie from snatching the trophy from under her nose?

Mark & Karen – 20/1

The days look numbered for the TOWIE star, as it was up to the judges to save him for next week’s show.

At this stage a 32 isn’t show winning form, and a move out from 12/1 to 20/1 says it all about the chances of the Essex-born TV star.

Jake & Janette – 10/3

The leading man on the dancefloor this season had a week to forget.

The Eastenders actor failed to impress with his Argentine Tango, with Craig describing it as “a complete dance disaster,” before ‘awarding’ it a 5, bringing a disappointing total up to 29.

We will need to see a big step up if Jake is to stop the leading ladies.
