West Ham v Leicester: Foxes hoodoo in east London to continue

Published:

It seems that every club has their bogey team, that one opponent they cannot seem to defeat. And for Leicester City, it’s West Ham, and in particular in east London.

The Foxes have won just one of their last 22 visits to the Boleyn Ground, tasting defeat in 16 of them.

Not the kind of record to be bringing into a match where you are looking to avoid an eighth away defeat in nine.

But at 9/2 for a win, Ladbrokes clearly see that poor run going on for Nigel Pearson’s side, with the Hammers strong favourites at 8/13 and a draw available at 14/5.

After delving into the wealth of markets available, Ben Stones has picked out a trio of bets worth following.

West Ham -1 @ 3/2

As mentioned, Leicester’s form away from the King Power Stadium has been woeful of late. They may have offered somewhat of a half-performance against QPR, but a 3-2 defeat continued a run of six straight defeats on the road.

In contrast, Sam Allardyce’s men have won five of their last six on their own patch, covering the handicap on three of those occasions.

Throw in that they have scored twice in the last three meetings with Leicester and they should have enough to give the Foxes a one goal head-start.

HT Score – 0-0 @ 2/1

While we expect a comfortable Hammers victory, it might not come early on in the match as we may think.

Despite Leicester’s poor record on the road, five of their eight matches on their travels have been goalless at half-time.

Add in that two of the last three ties at Upton Park have failed to see any nets bulging in the opening 45 minutes, and this looks a more than generous price.

Kevin Nolan to score any time @ 15/8

The wily veteran has been a perennial thorn in the side of many a Premier League team, and even more so for Leicester.

The ex-Newcastle man has scored three goals in four appearances against the Foxes, and can add to that here.

With the Hammers sharing the goalscoring around plenty this year – 12 different players have netted – he could get a few chances.
