3 Seattle Seahawks stars to watch out for at the Super Bowl

Published:

Without question the three biggest stars on the Seattle Seahawks’ roster are quarterback Russell Wilson, defensive leader Richard Sherman and running back Marshawn Lynch.

Each of them appeals to the game’s wider consciousness for different reasons. Wilson for playing with the coolness of a 10-year veteran in just his third season, Sherman for his brazen trash talking and Lynch for his insistence on doing all his talking on the field:

No matter how well known they are though, no side gets the chance of winning consecutive Super Bowl titles, which Ladbrokes give a 10/11 chance to, on the back of just three men.

On that basis, here are three unheralded stars of the Seahawks to watch out for in Arizona:

Doug Baldwin

The Seahawks look to score the majority of their points either by running the ball with Lynch or on defence. So, as the side’s number-one wide receiver, Baldwin’s numbers automatically take a huge dent from the outset.

That doesn’t make him any less confident, despite catching 63 less passes and totalling a huge 873 fewer yards than the league leader this season.

On facing Darrelle Revis, one of the most respected defenders in the league whose spot on the field is nicknamed “Revis Island” for the amount of times receivers have gone missing there, Baldwin said: I’m going to bring my sunblock, my shades, and a hat and I’m going to go to Revis Island and see what I can do”.

Michael Bennett

Sat in front of the Seahawks’ legendary “Legion of Boom” secondary is defensive lineman Bennett.

He’s the man who rode around the field after winning the NFC Championship game on a police bike he had just stolen.

He’s also the man that did this at the Super Bowl’s media day:

Aside from showmanship, Bennett ensures he performs on the field and leads the Seahawks in sacks this season.

Earl Thomas

Like Sherman, Thomas suffered an injury during the NFC Championship win over the Green Bay Packers that made him a doubt for the Super Bowl.

However, neither man is expected to sit out of the main event, which is bad news for the New England Patriots.

Thomas has the most tackles of any Seahawk this term, has forced four fumbles and recorded one interception.
