Arsenal v Stoke: Crouch goal won’t stop standard Emirates loss

| 07.01.2015

Every time Stoke’s Premier League fixture at the Emirates comes around even the loyalist travelling fans must search around for excuses, as a trip to Arsenal invariably means defeat and a long journey back up to the Potteries.

Arsenal are understandably priced up as the 1/2 favourites to claim a seventh-straight home victory over Stoke in the Premier League era, who are 6/1, while the draw is a 10/3 chance.

We begin our rundown of best bets for the televised Sunday lunchtime kick-off with a rudimentary Arsenal victory, but at least Stoke supporters who’ve braved the trip should be able to celebrate a goal.

Arsenal to win and both teams to score @ 9/4

Even though Stoke are in decent form of late, taking seven of the last nine points, hoodoos don’t run much deeper than the one Arsenal hold over the Potters in north London.

The Gunners are naturally very strong at home anyhow, having lost just once at the Emirates in 27 league games, but pivotally they’ve won their last 12 home games in a row against Stoke stretching back to 1981.

As was proved in the 3-2 Stoke victory in the reverse fixture however, Mark Hughes’ side can exploit a shaky Arsenal defence which has gone six top-flight games without keeping a clean sheet.

Peter Crouch to score anytime @ 31/10

The beanpole Stoke striker got his side off to the best possible start up at the Britannia when notching in the very first minute.

While the former Liverpool man is unlikely to cause such a shock at the Emirates, Crouch has scored more goals against the Gunners (8) than any other current Premier League club.

Arsenal to win 2-1 or 3-1 @ 18/5

Since a frustrating home defeat to Manchester United back in November, Arsene Wenger’s men have won five out of five in all competitions at the Emirates.

They have averaged 2.2 goals per game during that run and have also beaten Stoke 3-1 at home in two of the last four years.
