Atletico Madrid v Real Madrid: In-form front man sure to score

Published:

You know you’ve hit the big time in Spanish football when you cross paths with Real Madrid and Barcelona more often than the two standard league games that are scheduled into a season.

If winning last season’s La Liga title wasn’t enough of a confirmation that Atletico Madrid are a serious threat to the historical duopoly at the country’s top table, then their increased battles with the two giants is.

Diego Simeone’s side faced Barcelona six times last term and duelled their city rivals on five occasions. Their duel with Carlo Ancelotti’s Real on Wednesday night will be meeting number four of the current campaign.

More Madrid derbies are in store, with this match being the first leg of a Copa del Rey last-16 tie and another league encounter still to play, but for now we focus on the present with our three best bets for the encounter:

Both teams to score @ 7/10

With the array of attacking talent that Los Blancos possess, it is almost a crime if they fail to find the net in any of their fixtures and, true to form, they’ve netted in all bar one of their outings this season.

So the thinking is that it’s Los Rojiblancos who endanger this punt, but they have been shut out just three times this term. This bets has landed in four of the pair’s last five meetings too.

Antoine Griezmann to score anytime @ 11/5

Cristiano Ronaldo’s otherworldly scoring form (the Portuguese scored his 31st goal of the season against Valencia last time out) means that other players in less-jaw-dropping-but-still-pretty-fine fettle get mouth watering odds to find the net.

In nabbing himself a brace in the 3-1 win over Levante at the weekend, Griezmann became Atleti’s top scorer this term.

The Frenchman has five goals in his last two games and boasts 10 in his last 13 for the club overall.

Match to be a draw @ 12/5

Simeone’s mob have a superb recent record over their Champions League conquerors (that obvious heartache aside), meaning the two are virtually inseparable in the match betting market.

The hosts are 23/10 for victory, while Real are 6/5, but the visitors haven’t beaten their rivals in 90 minutes in the last five matches, with three of those ending all square.
