Ex-Man Utd boss wants Burnley goal-machine at Sociedad

Published:

He may have masterminded a win over Barcelona at the first attempt, but Real Sociedad manager David Moyes is in dire need of some extra firepower over in La Liga and has a Premier League striker at the forefront of his mind.

Danny Ings’ contract situation at Burnley has attracted more interest than an authentic Rolex on sale for a fiver at a car boot sale.

The England U21 star has refused to sign on the dotted line meaning he will be available for free this summer if, that is, Sean Dyche manages to keep him out of the clutches of several top clubs in January first.

Although Burnley’s boss is convinced Ings will stay and provide the goals which can keep his 1/1-survival shots in the top flight this season, Moyes is in a favourable position compared to Premier League suitors.

Unlike reportedly interested parties Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City who are barred from arranging pre-contract agreements during the January transfer window, given Ings’ approaching free-agent status, foreign clubs such as Sociedad have the green light.

It’s just a question of whether the former Manchester United manager can lure the 22-year-old to La Liga.

There’s always the weather of course, but having been linked to some of the biggest names in English football Ings’ head may, unofficially, have already been turned.

Sun and sangria or a swanky pad off the King’s Road is a difficult choice so much may depend on Moyes’ powers of persuasion.

Sociedad are cocooned in 12th at present over in Spain, where drawing too many games is becoming an issue, making a goal scorer of Ings’ ability a major attraction.
