Man Utd’s best team has abundant balance but no Dutchmen

Published:

It’s not just the subject of mass debate among fans, but a far wider discussion raging in drinking holes and places of work alike; just what is Manchester United’s best XI and in what formation?

As one of the most notable purveyors of the 3-5-2 system going, Louis van Gaal has stuck to the formation which he trialled to great effect at the 2014 World Cup, almost exclusively since taking over at Old Trafford.

While the Dutch tactician arrived boasting a reputation as one of the finest coaching minds in the game, this fact alone hasn’t prevented scrutiny over his persistent approach to United’s set up.

Whether or not the 3-5-2 formation translates so successfully given the different personnel available to Van Gaal at United, over that at his disposal in Brazil, remains dubious.

The former Bayern Munich manager may well claim further time is required to mould his squad into one more flexible to a change in system not yet achievable with the current rota.

However, here at News.Ladbrokes we feel the Dutchman is missing a trick and with the team we’ve spliced together below, forget the Red Devils’ price of 4/11 for the top-four, they would be challenging for the title in no time.

Perhaps it’s no coincidence that the two men Van Gaal has to call upon in his squad who were part of his World Cup experiment are left out here.
