Price Boost: Australia get World Cup hike for Big Bash final

Published:

There has been an absolute cricket festival on show in Australia this winter, with the national side going on an epic winning run in all forms of the game and the domestic Big Bash League capturing the imagination of viewers both Down Under and overseas.

The final of that T20 competition doesn’t signal the end of all things bat and ball though, as the world’s best head to Australia, and New Zealand, to take part in the World Cup in February.

For a short time though, both the Big Bash League and the World Cup will be inextricably linked as Ladbrokes boost the price of Michael Clarke’s hosts to win the latter, until the first wicket falls in the former.

The Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers are set to do battle in the fourth edition of the Big Bash showpiece on Wednesday and the bookmaker has taken the decision to celebrate that fact by stretching Australia’s odds to win the World Cup to 9/2, from 9/4.

Clarke’s side are the favourites to win their fifth world crown in the 50-over game and will surely see plenty of betting action when the offer goes live on 8:30am on Wednesday morning, thanks to a run of overpowering form.

The Baggy Greens have only lost one of the last 10 ODIs they have played and are hitting form just at the right time ahead of a tournament in home conditions.

Should any Ladbrokes customers wish to snap up the inflated price they best act snappy, as the fast-paced T20 format often sees wickets tumble from the early stages of an innings as sides look to be aggressive from ball one.
