QPR SOS! 3 strikers that can save Harry Redknapp’s skin this season

Published:

Second bottom in the Premier League, Queens Park Rangers were unfortunate not to get something from their 2-0 defeat to Manchester United – a result that ended a seven-game unbeaten run at Loftus Road in the top-flight – but manager Harry Redknapp has the solution.

Quizzed after the game on his side’s inability to put away a number of gilt-edged chances, the under-pressure Rs boss seemed all-too-aware of what the club needed.

“If we can get another striker in on loan then we’ll stay up no problem,” he said.

With one-time target and favourite Redknapp purchase Jermain Defoe already at Sunderland however, the Hoops manager may need to look elsewhere for a solution – here are three options.

Plan A: Robbie Keane – LA Galaxy

Redknapp was previously quoted as saying he would love to bring his former Tottenham charge over from the States on loan and with Keane previously thriving during a loan switch to Aston Villa a couple of seasons back, this looks an entirely plausible proposition.

The 34-year-old scored three goals in six outings for the Midlands outfit during his short stay at the club and with the striker still keen to be part of the Green Army’s plans ahead of a potential appearance at Euro 2016, this could suit everyone involved.

Plan B: Kolbeinn Sigthorsson – Ajax

Rangers have long been linked with a move for Ajax’s highly-rated Iceland international, who has scored 29 goals in 74 appearances for the Eredivisie giants as well as 16 goals in 27 outings for his national side, and have already reportedly contacted the Dutch club over a potential move.

Any deal is likely to see Sigthorsson arrive, initially on loan, with a view to signing the striker on a permanent deal next summer – thus circumventing the current transfer troubles at the club.

But with the club previously failing to agree personal terms with the 24-year-old last year, any deal still looks some way off.

Plan C: Yakubu Aiyegbeni – Al Rayyan

Undoubtedly one of the outsiders to make a Premier League return, desperate times nevertheless require desperate measures and with Redknapp on the hunt for a proven top-flight goalscorer who is also available on loan the return of Yakubu may not appear as daft as it seems.

Linked with a move to Loftus Road by The Mirror, the reportedly 32-year-old striker has been in fine form in front of goal over the last few years, scoring 25 goals in 45 outings for Chinese super club Guangzhou R&F before adding a further three in six with Al Rayyan in Qatar.

Having scored 18 goals in 33 games over his final Premier League season with Blackburn, Rangers could do worse than look at the Nigerian.
