QPR looking to former Tottenham academy prospect for salvation

Harry Redknapp may be on the final of his nine lives at Queens Park Rangers but with the January transfer window now in the full swing the Rs boss may just have one more trick up his sleeve in the signing of a former Tottenham winger with no Premier League appearances to his name.

On the books at White Hart Lane from 2008 to 2011, Paul-Jose M’Poku arrived at the club from Standard Liege as a youngster and was seen as one for the future of the Lilywhites.

But despite impressing during a season-long loan with League One outfit Leyton Orient during his stay in England, the DR Congo-born midfielder ultimately opted to move back to Belgium with Standard for an undisclosed fee four years ago.

However, it proved to be a wise move for the now 22-year-old midfielder, who has played over 90 games for Standard over the last three seasons with the 2013-14 campaign a particular highlight for the wide-man, who managed 10 goals in 33 games.

A Belgium under-21 international with 18 caps and four goals to his name, M’Poku could now be in line for a return to the Premier League, according to Sky Sports, who claim QPR are considering a bid for the youngster.

Redknapp will be familiar with the 22-year-old from his time in charge of Tottenham with the Rs boss in charge of Spurs during M’Poku’s time at the north London club.

But with the QPR boss previously claiming that any incoming players would most likely arrive at Loftus Road on loan, alternative options may yet be sought.

Aaron Lennon looks the most likely of these with Rangers the 7/2 favourites with Ladbrokes to land the 27-year-old from Tottenham this January.

The former England man is 6/5 to remain at White Hart Lane this month while a Stoke move is priced at 5/1 with the bookmaker.
